A phenomenon was mentioned earlier today about the supposedly strange reaction of one of the original donor relatives who wished to visit the recipient in whom the heart of his daughter beat. It is, in fact, a common reaction. That aspect of organ transplantation has been present since its inception and is very much with us today. Professor Renée Fox (b.1928) was Annenberg Professor of the Social Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania from 1969 to 1998, later Emeritus, with secondary joint appointments in the Department of Psychiatry, Department of Medicine, and the School of Nursing. She was George Eastman Visiting professor at Balliol College, Oxford, during 1996-1997.
