Introducing Wikimedian in Residence, Mr Andy Mabbett

We are pleased to announce that Mr Andy Mabbett, FRSA, will be working with us as Wikimedian in Residence for our project. Andy has previously worked as Wikimedian in Residence with a number of organisations, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, ORCID, and TED Conferences, in addition to authoring several books chronicling the band Pink Floyd.

Mr Alan Yabsley, Multimedia Manager for the Makers of Modern Biomedicine Project, said "As our project enters its final months, I'm delighted that Andy will be helping secure the legacy of this extraordinary undertaking, which has been 24 years in the making. Ever since the first Witness Seminar was held in September 1993, the aim was to make the research outputs of the Group freely available and accessible to all, which has been possible thanks to the generous support of the Wellcome Trust. I can think of no better way to try and continue that legacy than by creating extensible Wikidata records from our archive of material which future generations will be able to build upon. It's a great way to honour the many remarkable men and women who have contributed their unique voices to this project, whether as 'witnesses' at group events, or as individual interviewees."

Andy Mabbett said "I am pleased to have the opportunity of working with a team of people who embrace the Wikimedia vision of 'a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge'. By adding data to Wikidata, uploading openly-licensed media to Wikimedia Commons, and supporting volunteer contributors to write Wikipedia articles in English and other languages, our collaboration will help to make fascinating stories about medical developments and the people behind them known to many new audiences."
